Hood Obit PicGardys Elizabeth “Betty” Hood, 84, of Amarillo, died Friday, Nov. 15, 2013.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  Burial will be in Panhandle Cemetery in Panhandle.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Betty was born June 3, 1929, in Pampa to Lynn and Viola Armstrong.  She was raised by her grandparents Arch and Gardys Armstrong.  Betty graduated valedictorian from Panhandle High School in 1946 and graduated from the University of North Texas in 1950.  She married Charles Fredrick Hood, Jr. on June 27, 1950, in Panhandle.
She was a member and served on the board of the Texas Music Teachers Association, was Amarillo Music Teacher of the year 1983 and 2002-2003, and became a Nationally Certified Teacher of Music in July 1993.  She was a private studio music instructor for more than 60 years.  Starting in 1965, Betty and Charles were season subscribers to the Amarillo Symphony.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Social Order of the Beauceant, and Daughters of the Nile.  She also was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution and Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.  Betty was a member of Hillside Christian Church.
Betty enjoyed cooking, playing two-piano recitals, and loved a silly joke.
Survivors include her husband, Charles Fredrick Hood, Jr., of Amarillo; three sons, Charles Fredrick Hood and wife Patricia of Cali, Colombia, South America, Maurice Lynn Hood and wife Maria Consuelo of Atlanta, GA, and John Andrew Hood and wife Nancy of suburban Philadelphia; four grandsons; two granddaughters; three great-granddaughters; and one great-grandson.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to a favorite charity.
