Evelyn Louise Soule was born on August 11, 1929, in Amarillo, TX. She graduated from Amarillo High School and played the clarinet in the Sandie Band. She had one daughter, Jacqueline (Jackie) Irene. She and Jackie moved in with her parents, Richard and Anna Groves. There she would remain until many years after they both passed away. In her final 16 years, she lived with her daughter Jackie and her husband Verl Hawbaker.

Evelyn worked for Southwestern Drug in Amarillo for 10 years as a Data Entry Operator. She left there to work as a Data Entry Operator for Pioneer Natural Gas (Mesa Petroleum) for another 20 years where she left to stay home and care for her mom, Anna Barnes Rives Groves, until her passing on August 15, 1990. Her father, Richard Blanton Groves passed on September 11, 1966.

Evelyn liked to square dance when she was younger, and she could draw well but never pursued it. She also liked photography and loved taking pictures of everything, especially family and friend gatherings. She won several photo contests. She liked to travel, she enjoyed seeing new places and going out to eat. Her favorite was cheese enchiladas. She drank green tea instead of water, she loved it. Evelyn collected lions most of her life because she was a Leo and she had quite an extensive collection. In her later years, she enjoyed working crossword puzzles and other printable puzzles. She also enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together and loved getting them for Christmas.

Evelyn was not one to show much affection, but she loved her daughter, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren very much and tried to help them out however and whenever she could.

Evelyn’s only brother, George Thomas Groves, passed away on May 27, 2016.

Evelyn is survived by her sister, Mildred Groves Freeman; daughter, Jacqueline (Jackie) Hawbaker and husband Verl Hawbaker; grandchildren, Kyle Hawbaker and wife Shaun, Kimberly Hawbaker Cooley and husband Nathan, and Jerrod Hawbaker; great-grandchildren, Kanten Hawbaker and wife Andreanna, Jyntre Millsap, Jaden Millsap, and Zeden Hawbaker; and one great-great-grandchild, Atticus Cree Hawbaker.
