Evart “Carrol” Goad, 86, of Amarillo, TX passed away on December 15, 2020 in Amarillo, TX after a short battle with COVID-19. A graveside service is scheduled for 2 pm, Monday, December 21, 2020 at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 14200 IH-27 South, Amarillo, TX.  Paul Frederiksen will officiate.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Carrol was born in Dallam County, TX on March 21, 1934.  His family eventually moved to Wheeler, TX where he grew up and received his education in the Wheeler schools.  Shortly after graduating from Wheeler High School, the family moved to Pampa, TX.  Carrol worked at Furr’s Supermarket where he met Doris Gertrude Lewis of Wellington, Texas.  Carrol was drafted by the United States Army in July of 1956.  He and Doris were married on July 7, 1956, just six days before he was sent to Arizona for training.

Upon completion of his time in the service, he returned to Pampa where he was hired by Cabot Corporation.  Carrol inspected large oilfield equipment and backhoes and eventually became Chief Equipment Inspector.  He had a reputation for being very thorough and skilled at driving and testing oilfield drilling units.  Carrol and Doris had three children. They later divorced in 1980.

Carrol met Mary Nanetta “Nan” Harmon and they were married on March 14, 1982.  They moved to Amarillo, TX in 1997. Altogether they enjoyed thirty-eight wonderful years together as they traveled with family, spent holidays with family, and enjoyed shopping and eating out.

Carrol was well-respected for being hard-working, kind, friendly, honest, trustworthy, and polite by all who knew him.

Carrol was preceded in death by his father, Evart Zack Goad, his mother, Iris Ethel Leona Hawkins Goad, his sisters, Martha Lou Bynum of Phoenix, AZ, Nelda “Kay” Kerr of Lubbock, TX, and his wife, Mary Nanetta “Nan” Goad of Amarillo TX.

He is survived by his sons Norman Edward Goad and his wife, Diana of Amarillo, and Marvin Lee Goad of Austin, his daughter Melanie Goad Cartee and her husband Brian of San Antonio, his granddaughter Lauren Cartee Curlee and husband, Russell of Ft. Worth, his grandson Benjamin Cole Cartee of San Antonio and several wonderful nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Allen Harman and wife Malinee and their children and grandchildren.

  1. My prayers go out to the family. Carrol was a close friend of our Marlar family. He had a way of making you feel like family. He will be missed so much.
