Elsie Harbison Stennis of Bryan died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Elsie was born Feb. 7, 1919, in Burbank, Okla., to Starling and Ethel James Harbison. She grew up in Spearman and moved to Amarillo to attend Amarillo Business College and worked at Amarillo Hardware Co. for a short period of time.
She married Samuel Y. Stennis in 1942 and became a homemaker. She taught Sunday school at Trinity Baptist Church and was active in the organizations in which her children were involved. She lived in Amarillo for her adult life except for the last two years when she moved to Bryan to be close to her children.
She was preceded in death by her husband; and a son, Dr. Samuel D. Stennis.
Survivors include two children, Sudie Stennis of Houston and Robert Stennis and wife Beverly of Bryan; wife of Samuel D. Stennis, Gail of Amarillo; eight grandchildren, Malie Bingham, Jeni Roller, Beth Sublett, Samuel Stennis, Katy Sewell, David Stennis, Jill Stennis and Sara Langford; 13 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Jewel Phipps of Bend, Oregon.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at the funeral home.
