Elmer Rudolph “Rudy” Kirby, 86, of Amarillo, passed away, Wednesday, November 2, 2011.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 7, 2011 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. with Alan Williamson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military Rites by DAV Chapter 26. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Rudy was born in Bolivia, North Carolina on December 18, 1924 to Oscar Rudolph Kirby and Katherine Johnson Kirby. He had a brother, Robert E. Kirby, and a sister, Katheryn Kirby Allen (deceased). He married his first wife on December 25, 1945, Emma Dell Castleberry Kirby (deceased) and they had two children, John R. Kirby and Colleen Dell Kirby Giere.
Rudy was a Navy pilot during World War II. He obtained a Bachelors of Science Degree in Physics from Texas A&I and a Master of Science Degree in Physics from the University of Arizona. He successfully completed numerous high value projects throughout his lifetime as a professional licensed engineer. Rudy also taught physics and math.
Rudy was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He made his family’s problems his own and was always supportive in every way possible. He had many friends and has left many loved ones behind including his companion, Valerie and Denise Elizabeth Colburn.
Survivors include a brother, Robert E. Kirby; a son, John R. Kirby; a daughter, Colleen Giere; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, 2011 at the funeral home.
