Ellsworth Elmer Crowley, 74, of Amarillo, TX died November 20, 2020.

Memorial services will be at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, November 25, 2020, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Military rites will be provided by Volleys for Veterans. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Ellsworth was born in Great Bend, KS on September 25, 1946, to Elmer W. and Pauline F. Crowley. He graduated from Lane County Community High School in Dighton, KS in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1966 to October 1968. Ellsworth graduated from Washburn University in May of 1971. While in college, he worked for the Kansas State Historical Society. After college, he worked for the State Board of Engineering Examiners. He was the Executive Director.

Ellsworth moved to Amarillo, TX and worked for Arthur Fulmer Company. He later worked for the Railroad until 1982. That is also the year that he met Brenda G. Soapes Bates, the love of his life. They married on December 12, 1983. He then went to work for Mason and Hanger on August 13, 1984. He received his CPP in 1990. Ellsworth was employed by Pantex until his retirement in October of 2008.

Survivors include his wife, Brenda Crowley; son, Bobby Bates and wife Machelle; daughter, Madeline Thompson and husband John; son, Rickey Bates and wife Janelle; grandchildren, Alyssa Burrus, Ashley Bates, Raeley Bates, Ransley Bates, and Zabian Bates; great-grandchildren, Dixie, Raiden, and Walter Burrus; siblings, Doris Lee Irossi, Leon Crowley, and Gary Crowley and wife Margaret; sisters-in-law, Alice Peddy, and Myra Soapes; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Pleasent Valley United Methodist Church, 316 Valley Ave., Amarillo, TX 79108 or Evelyn Rivers, 314 S. Jefferson St., Amarillo, TX 79101.

  3. We will miss you Ellsworth. I know you are rejoicing now, walking those streets of gold. It won’t be long before we all get together. Brenda, we love you and wish we could be with you. I’m thankful for the Holy Ghost, our Comforter.

  4. I truly enjoyed E – he was always interesting to talk to, he seemed to either teach me something he knew or shed new light on a topic! He loved his family! I think being a Grand Dad was one of his greatest Joy’s! He will be greatly missed!

  9. Ellsworth was a special brother in Christ. He and Brenda were a super team. Will miss his presence but celebrate his homegoing.

  10. Ellsworth was as authentic a Christian man as I’ve known. He was always outspoken and unpretentious. His gruff exterior was never strong enough to hide the love of Jesus in his heart. I am glad to have known him and will miss his friendship.
