Ellis Edwin Stapp, 86, of Groom, TX departed this earth to be with Jesus on Thursday, September 26, 2019.

Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2019, at First Baptist Church of Groom, TX with the Rev. Danny Lucas and Rev. Andy Dietz officiating. Burial will follow in Claude Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Amarillo.

Ellis was born on February 28, 1933 in Alanreed, TX to Ellis Grayden and Ellen Mae Stapp. The family moved to Groom in 1937, where he attended school and graduated in 1952.  Ellis married the love of his life, Roxie Lee Harred on May 8, 1953, in Clovis, NM and they made their home in Amarillo. Ellis was employed by Wilson Battery and Electric from 1953 to 1966, and then went to work at Pantex until his retirement in 1995. Ellis and Roxie moved to Howardwick in 1983 and then to Groom in 1991 to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Ellis was a gracious and patient man who enjoyed wood working. He was often found in his shed humming tunes and making up funny songs to sing to his grandchildren. He was a man of few words, so when he had something to say the room would quiet, because you knew to listen to his wise words.

Among his many accomplishments, the greatest was his walk with the Lord. Ellis had unfaltering faith, and it was something he made sure to pass onto his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His family will remember this as being the most precious gift he gave to them.

Ellis belongs to the Claude Masonic Lodge and is a lifetime member of Palo Duro Lodge in Amarillo. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Groom where he served as a Deacon being ordinated by Eastridge Baptist Church in 1964.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kathryn Reed; and daughter-in-law, Terri Jo Stapp.

He is survived by his wife, Roxie and one son Dale Stapp of Amarillo, TX, two daughters Brenda Broom and husband Randy, Kim Lewellen and husband Russell of Groom.  Grandchildren, Chris and Renee Stapp of Saudi Arabia, Shannon and Shelby Stapp of Amarillo, Jessica and Wyatt Weinheimer of Amarillo, Misty Homen of Arlington, Jodi and Casey Crow of Panhandle, TX, Justin Homen of Amarillo, Malorie and Ryan Zimmer of Amarillo, Chris Homen of Miami, TX, Deidra and Mason Troutman of Houston, TX, Dustin and Ashley Broom of Amarillo, Josh and Bobbi Shae Crooks of Amarillo, Whitney and Nick Ball of White Deer, TX, Britney and Brett Britten of Groom, Shenne Lewellen of Pampa, TX and Brittany Lewellen of Amarillo and 29 great-grandchildren. One sister, Dorothy and husband Duane Babizke of Canyon Lake, TTX. His grandsons will have the great honor to be his pallbearers.

The family would like to extend their sincerest appreciation to the special caregivers for their love and care for Ellis. (Granddaughter Whitney, Lizzy, Allison, Bethany and Sissy).

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the First Baptist Church of Groom or the Groom Ambulance Fund.

The family will receive friends from 3-4:00 p.m., Sunday, September 29, 2019, at the funeral home.
