Mrs. Fickel was born Dec. 9, 1926, in Barker, Texas, to Matthew M. “Jack” and Sara Belle Kyser. She graduated as valedictorian from Cypress-Fairbanks High School in 1945.
She married Raymond Fickel on Sept. 28, 1946, in Houston. They settled in Amarillo in 1954. Her greatest joy was with her home and family. She also got a great deal of satisfaction from her work for Phillips Petroleum Company, from 1947 until her retirement in 1981. She enjoyed various activities, including participation in the Amarillo Desk and Derrick Club, and also reading, gardening, crafts, music, and walks. Her long-time, active membership in St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church was a very important part of her life.
Survivors include a daughter, Jacqueline Fickel, of Santa Monica, California.
The family suggests memorials be to a favorite charity.
We are also deeply grateful to the staff members at The Craig, and the team from Hospice of the Southwest, for their skillful and loving care.
