Dr. Jeff Murray Bearden

Dr. Jeff Murray Bearden, 83, Amarillo, TX went to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 24, 2019.

The evangelistic memorial service will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 27, 2019, at First Baptist Church, 1208 S. Tyler St., Amarillo, TX with Dr. Howard K. Batson officiating.  Private burial will be at Llano Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Dr. Bearden was born on September 7, 1936, in Marion, AL to his now deceased parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.N. Bearden, Sr.  His surviving wife is named June.  His brothers are Tom Bearden of Mt. Juliet, TN and Jim Bearden of Greenville, NC.  His deceased older brother was Joe Bearden of Cincinnati, OH.

He has always counted as his sister, Jill Fietz of Kingsland, TX since she was only two years old when he and June were married on August 9, 1958 in Hermosa Beach, CA.  Jill is June’s younger sister.

Dr. Bearden completed elementary, junior high, and high school in Marion, AL.  College study was a Samford University and Troy State University in Alabama; Texas Tech University, Wayland Baptist University, and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Texas; and the University of the Rockies in Colorado.

He served many churches as Associate Pastor, Business Administrator, Minister of Music, Minister of Education, Minister of Youth, and Pastoral Counselor in Alabama, California, Texas, Colorado, and Kansas.

Also, Sp/4 Bearden served in the U.S. Army as a Chaplain’s Assistant, Choir Director and Organist at Ft. Ord, CA, Ft. Benning, GA, and Hqts I Corps, Camp Red Cloud, South Korea.

Locally he assisted First Baptist Church, Amarillo, as an ordained minister, Sunday School teacher, deacon, and several committees.

Dr. Bearden taught graduate and undergraduate management and marketing courses at Wayland Baptist University.  He was one of their first professors in the early 1990s who taught “online courses” to students enrolled throughout the U.S. plus to military students in several foreign countries.  Also, as an adjunct instructor he taught management, marketing, and communication at Amarillo College and West Texas A&M University.

His funeral at First Baptist Church is designed as an evangelistic memorial service for his family, friends, church members and former college students.

  1. I just found out that Jeff passed away. He and June were my next door neighbors for 24 years; I moved last September. Jeff was an amazing man and will be missed.

  2. Jeff Bearden was my paternal uncle. I knew him my whole life. (56 years). I can tell you that although I didn’t see him nearly enough in this life, due to living so far apart, I learned more about what it’s like to be a decent human being from him than anyone else I ever met! RIP “Uncle Jeff”! I’ll see you up there in a little while! I love & already miss you! “BOSS”

  3. Jeff, was my favorite teacher of all time, he mentored me and became my friend as I attended Wayland Baptist as an adult, twenty five years after dropping out of college, he motivated me to be a better student and Christian.

  4. Jeff Bearden was a good friend for many years. He always had a smile on his face and something good to say. I always enjoyed hearing Jeff play the piano. He and June have been so involved in First Baptist Church. Thank you Jeff for your Christian example and teaching through the years.
