Don Eugene Taylor, 72, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on January 27, 2020 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 31, 2020 at Vega United Methodist Church.

Don was born to Roy and Evelyn Taylor on June 27, 1947 in Amarillo. He grew up in Vega, Texas, graduated from Vega High School in 1965 and attended North Texas State University in Denton. He followed in the footsteps of his grandparents and parents as a lifelong farmer in Vega.

Don had a deep love of nature – mountains, trees, and animals of all kinds. He enjoyed farming and traveling, but more than anything he loved his family and close friends – most of whom he had known since childhood. Many people would say that he never met a stranger, but in truth, he met thousands of strangers with whom he would easily engage in a casual conversation then walk away knowing their story. Those who had the privilege of knowing Don would agree he was a one of kind person who left a place in their heart that no one else could ever fill.

Don is survived by his wife Phyllis Tebo of Amarillo; his daughters Traci Hendricks and husband Bryan of Justin, TX, Jodi Wade and husband Jerome of Albuquerque, NM; his grandchildren Josh, Zach, and Caleb Hendricks, and Lauren and Austin Wade. Phyllis’s children and grandchildren were a very important part of his life. They include her daughters Kim Sims and husband Stoney, Jessica Moore and husband Ethan, as well as her grandchildren Grayson and Ally Sims, and Libby, Kennedy and Hank Moore. Other survivors are his brother Wayne Taylor and wife Belinda; nephews David Taylor and wife Quincy, Brian Taylor and wife Laura; nieces Megan Villarreal and husband Saul, Amelia Easley and husband Jarrett; as well as many great nieces and nephews. And last but not least, he is survived by his beloved dog and faithful companion, Annie.

Memorials can be made to Faith City Mission, 401 SE 2nd, Amarillo, TX 79101.
