Don E. Gillispie, 77, of Claude died Saturday, June 16, 2012, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012, in First Baptist Church in Claude with Roger Morris officiating. Private burial will be in Claude Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Claude.
Don was born Oct. 15, 1934, in Spearman to Samuel and Mary Gillispie. The family moved to Lubbock when he was 3 years old. He graduated from Lubbock High School and Texas Tech University majoring in Agricultural Economics.
Don married Nancy Bagwell in June 1956 in Claude. They made their home in Lubbock, where he was employed by Pioneer Natural Gas. He was a very involved parent in scouting, Little League Baseball and church activities. In 1973, the family moved southeast of Claude, where he was a stock farmer. He was a former member of the Claude School Board, director of Stake Plains Soil Conservation District and a member of the First Baptist Church of Claude.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Mary Gillispie.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Gillispie; two sons, Charles Gillispie and wife Kristi of Claude and Joe Gillispie and wife Susan of Lubbock; a daughter, Cheryl Sherrer and husband Mike of Amarillo; seven grandchildren, Michael Reed of Denver, Johnathan Reed and wife Alexis, Danielle Sherrer and John Tyler Sherrer, all of Amarillo, Matthew Gillispie, David Gillispie and Brian Gillispie, all of Lubbock; a great-granddaughter, Abbi Fewell; and a sister, Martha Gillispie of Lubbock.
Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Boxwell Brothers at Claude, with a family visitation from 5 to 7 p.m.
