Dale Matlock, 79, of Amarillo, TX passed away on August 24, 2020.

Celebration of life will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 28, 2020, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd., with Dr. Howard K. Batson officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Dale was born on November 25, 1940, in Sayre, OK to Orville and Stella Matlock. He graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1959. He soon met the love of his life, Jeanie Farmer, and they married on July 21, 1961. They were together for 59 years.

They moved to Amarillo soon after they got married. He worked at Panhandle Fruit Company, Quaker Oats Company, and M&M Mars Candy Company, where he retired. He was known to all the neighborhood kids as the “Candy Man”.

They spent many years traveling coast to coast and took many fishing trips to Lake Texoma. Dale was the best fisherman. He loved to load the boat up with family and friends and head out striper fishing always in hopes of catching the “Big Un”. Dale was the best fishing guide on Lake Texoma and best of all he worked for free!

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Ronnie Matlock in 1962, and his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanie Matlock, of the home; two sons, Brad Matlock and wife Brenda, of Amarillo, TX, and Brent Matlock and wife Roxanne, of Amarillo, TX; one daughter, Jan Lowery and husband Troy, of Amarillo, TX; six grandchildren, Zachary Matlock and wife Jenny, of Amarillo, TX, Bailee Riddell and husband Jansen, of Amarillo, TX, Madison Martinez and husband Parker, of Grapevine, TX, Breken Matlock, of Amarillo, TX, Rance Lowery, of Amarillo, TX, and Jace Lowery, of Lubbock, TX; four great-grandchildren, Austin, Caroline, Livi, and Bailor; one brother, Harold Matlock and wife Anne, of Amarillo, TX; and a host of additional family and close friends.

Dale will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. PawPaw you will always have a seat at our family gatherings and Sunday dinners.

  1. Prayers of comfort & strength. We loved getting to know Dale. We will rejoice in knowing that one day we will all be together & Dale will be waiting to welcome us. Jeanie we are here for you if you need us.

  2. Our sincerest sympathy is extended to Jeanie and the family. A part of Dale will always be with us as we make memories in his Falcon King Striper boat. We enjoyed sharing pictures and text messages this Spring.

  3. As Jeannie was in my Sayre, OK, H.S. class, I had the privilege of getting to know Dale over the years at alumni each Easter. He clearly married well and was a fun/funny guy. Always had an entertaining story. Lisa and I extend our deepest sympathies to Jeannie and her outstanding family,

  14. It saddens me deeply that my sweet girlfriends lost a loving husband and brother n law. I pray that they feel the loving hand of God and know he is with them during this difficult time. I love you girls and know my heart is breaking.
