Colene Wheeler Borger-April 19, 2011

Colene Wheeler Borger of Amarillo fell asleep in the Lord on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at the age of 79.
Visitation with the family will be at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 20 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.  The funeral service will be held in the Central Church of Christ Chapel on Thursday, April 21 at 2:00 p.m. with Dan Bouchelle officiating.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery off of I-27 between Amarillo and Canyon.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Borger was born in Memphis, Texas on August 19th, 1931 and graduated high school in Wellington, Texas.  Colene was a faithful child of God since her baptism at the age of 11. She moved to Amarillo after high school and attended Draughn’s Business School. She married Lacy R. Borger at Central Church of Christ Chapel on September 15th, 1950.  She was a wonderful Christian wife, mother and grandmother.  Gardening, painting and golf were some of her favorite hobbies.  She had a caring heart and gave much time to volunteer work.  Meals on Wheels was a favorite task for 23 years.  Mentoring young, new moms was a special joy for her.
She was preceded in death by her father, Ted Wheeler and mother, Lorene and two brothers, Teddy Jr. and Bill.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Lacy Borger of Amarillo; two sons, Mike and wife Lynnae of Amarillo, Larry and wife Callie of Amarillo; two daughters, Carolyn Mayfield and husband Gene of Amarillo, Janice Conway and husband Darrell of Abilene. She is also survived by three brothers, Eddie, Dan and Buford and two sisters Clariece and Laura.  God blessed her with 9 grandchildren Jenny, Richard, Lacey, Tanner, Chance, Angela, Dayton, Neely and Blake. An extra blessing were her 8 great grandchildren Shelbee, Eastland, Shaylee, Brylee, Baylor, Dylan, Carter and Beckett.
Memorials in honor of Colene can be made to High Plains Children’s Home, 11461 South Western Street, Amarillo, TX 79118.
