Charles Edward Maberry- February 3, 2012

Charles Edward Maberry, 80, of Amarillo, died Friday, February 3, 2012.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, in Paramount Baptist Church with Dr. Gil Lain officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Charlie was born Jan. 7, 1932, in Dallas.  He was raised in Dallas and graduated from Crozier Tech High School in 1951.  He enlisted in the U.S. Marines and served as a corporal for two years during the Korean conflict.
He married Nelda Lee Standifer on June 28, 1952. He graduated from Sam Houston State University and served as a Dallas police officer for 34 years.  He was an active member of Paramount Baptist Church and was very involved with the Gideons.
Charlie was an avid golfer and a talented artist. He loved working in his yard and being outside, but the activity he loved most was spending time with his daughter, son-in-law and his two grandkids, Colt and Brittan, who knew him best as “Papa.” 
Charlie always had a smile or a hug for everyone he met.  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend, and he will be greatly missed.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Nelda; and his parents, Pauline and Earl Maberry.
Charlie is survived by his daughter, Dalana Peterson and husband Lee of Amarillo; and two grandchildren, Colt and Brittan Peterson, both of Amarillo.
The family suggests memorials be to The Rainbow Room at Child Protective Services, 3521 S.W 15th Ave., Amarillo, TX 79102.
