Carolyn Nell Ketelle, 83, of Amarillo, TX passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020.

Services will be at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, September 24, 2020, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Mrs. Ketelle was born June 20, 1937, to Sam and Nina Wheat in Brownwood, Texas. Throughout her adolescence, she excelled academically. She carried the determination and standards of excellence with which she approached her studies with her, applying them to every area of her life.

On April 5, 1957, she married Jay Ketelle and they remained inseparable until his death in 2015. Over the course of nearly six decades, the couple was active in their community, most notably as members of Paramount Baptist Church. One of her great passions was missionary work and she traveled all over the world to countries as diverse as Brazil, Hong Kong, France, Spain, and Germany spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. For over a decade she also led a Bible study as part of Paramount’s English as a Second Language program.

Carolyn was a homemaker who loved to cook food and entertain guests in her home. She was a loving mother who raised four children and an exceptional friend who was always there for anyone who needed a hand. She saw the best in others and was always kind to those she crossed paths with. She loved many and was loved by many, all of whom will miss her very much. Her legacy will live on in the lives of those she showed love to along the way.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jay on March 28, 2015. She is also preceded in death by her brother Sammy, son David and daughter Donna.

Survivors include her sister Sharon of Lubbock, TX; brother Harold of Dallas, TX; two sons, Don Ketelle and wife Lori of Bushland, TX, and Buddy Ketelle of Lufkin, TX; and two grandchildren, Josh and Travis.

  1. We often talked of our being roommates on my first Mission trip in 1974 to Hong Kong. Carolyn was a dear and very special friend to me. In 1982 I went to Brazil with a group the Ketelles’ always organized. So many wonderful memories of the training classes they taught. Don, Lori, and Buddy please know you are in my prayers as you grieve this loss along with so many of us.

  2. Will miss Aunt Carolyn very much. Growing up I will always remember the wonderful Thanksgiving Holidays at her and Uncle Jay’s house. She was such a great host and always made everyone feel welcome, loved, and special. She was always, always kind and thoughtful and we will miss her very much. We know that she has stepped into eternity and will be there to welcome us.

  4. My Aunt Carolie was the sweetest, happiest, generous woman. She made all my childhood holiday get togethers picture perfect full of love, laughter, prayer, and pies! She made such an impact on so many people, at church and around the world. We love you Aunt Carolie. 💗🙏🏻
