Betty F. Smith – August 11, 2011

Betty F. Smith, 87, of Amarillo died on Thursday, August 11, 2011.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 15, 2011 at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church with The Reverend Jo Roberts Mann officiating.  Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Smith was born on March 30, 1924 in Manchester, England.  She and Smitty married at the end of WWII and returned to the states.  She was the pharmacist at Northwest Texas Hospital for many years.  Mrs. Smith taught school at St. Christopher’s Episcopal School in Lubbock and at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School in Amarillo.  She was instrumental in bringing hospice to Amarillo and was ordained a Deacon on November 6, 1988.  She was a member of St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister, all of England.
Survivors include her husband, J.H. “Smitty” Smith; a daughter, Jeanne Ferguson and her husband A.J. of Waynoka, Oklahoma and a son, Jim Smith and his wife Dian of Las Vegas, Nevada.
The family suggests memorials be made to Odyssey Hospice, 6900 I-40 West, Suite 150, Amarillo, TX 79106.
A visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday afternoon at the funeral home.

  2. Our prayers are with the Smith family. Betty walked among us living the example of Christ. She visited Marilyn after her accident and maintained support through friendship. Betty will be missed. Thanks be to God for her life.
