Bartas LaVecchia – November 9, 2011

It is with great sadness that the family of Bartas LaVecchia, 24, of Amarillo are announcing his passing on Wednesday, November 9, 2011. Bartas was a passionate and a talented young man, who touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Bartas was born on June 11, 1987 in Klaipeda, Lithuania, where he spent his childhood, attended school, and spent time with family and friends.  He was baptized and confirmed at Mary the Queen of the Peace Catholic Church in Klaipeda, Lithuania.  When Bartas was 14 years old, the family moved to Kenai, Alaska, where he quickly became accustomed to Alaskan lifestyle, made new friends, and graduated from Skyview High School with the class of 2007.  In 2009, he moved to Amarillo where he worked as a truck driver for Cintas.
Bartas had many interests and talents. He always enjoyed working with his hands.  He had a great sense of humor and took pleasure in making others smile. He was a great son, brother, uncle and a friend.
He is survived by his parents, Rasa and Richard Bailey of Amarillo; a sister, Ruta and her husband Russel Smail of Fairbanks, Alaska; two nieces, Emilia and Olivia; his grandparents, Edmund and Dalia Jablonskiene and his aunt and uncle, Ausra and Darius Bruzas, all of Klaipeda, Lithuania; his cousins, Egle and Lina; his great-grandparents, Ruta and Donatas Astrauskai.
Memorial services will be at 11AM on Tuesday, November 15th at St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral, with Monsignor Harold Waldow officiating.  Lunch will immediately follow the service. Arrangements are made by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
