Anna Kinard Rutherford Dunn-Calcote, 74, of Amarillo, died Sunday, November 29, 2020.

Graveside services will be at 1:00 P.M., Friday, December 4, 2020, in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Cisco, Texas with Chris Justice, pastor of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Anna was born on October 1, 1946 in Cisco, Texas to Ray Seymour and Dorothy Jane Jones Kinard in Humble – Camps of May Hawley and Cisco.  She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant brother, and her sister, Jeana Ragdale Hutton.

She attended elementary and junior high school in Pampa and graduated high school in Amarillo in May 1965.

Anna married and became Anna Rutherford.  She worked at Amarillo U. S. Federal Credit Union, Levi Straus, and the Pantex Credit Union, where she was assistant manager.  She resigned and entered WTSU and graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in teaching.  Ms. Dunn taught at Forest Hills in the 4th and 5th grades for seven years.  She then returned to WTSU and earned her Master’s degree in education administration in 1990.

After Mr. Dunn and Anna parted ways, she continued as Ms. Dunn, and became assistant principal at Will Rogers, Belmar, Sanborn, and Pleasant Valley elementary schools.  She was extremely proud of her staff of teachers as she led them as principal the next seven years.

Anna had many wonderful and loyal friends; Vianna LaRue, Cynthia Doe, Regina McGinnis, Betty Davenport, Joe Cummings, Marita Nickels, Tim Joe for eight years of friendship and lessons, her cousins Vern Shirley and Lee, Helen Eakins Calcote, Carol Horn McDaniel, Ginger Lemons, Joyce Galle, Lillian Cantwell, and Jennifer Galle Palmer.

Her favorite last name, Dunn-Calcote was the best.  Dunn-Calcote gave her the most pleasure because it came from the love of her life, her best friend, handsome partner, and the one she shared sacred vows with, J. C. Calcote (James Glendale Calcote, Jr.).

In Anna’s own words, “My love for J. C. and his for me equals the happiness of three lifetimes.  Thank you, Jesus.  What a Wonderful 23 years.”

Not only was she an exceptional educator/administer, she was a gifted artist. One of her paintings is in my home in Germany and friends and family there are very impressed.
