Alice June Cox, 80, of Amarillo, TX died Wednesday, October 16, 2019.

Memorial services will be held in the Ivy Chapel of the Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home at 11:00 AM Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019, with Dr. G.A. Roach officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Alice was born May 6, 1939, to J.D. Price and June Brooks Price in Ft. Smith Arkansas. She met her husband, Kenneth Lynn Cox in Seiling, OK and they married in August 1958. Both graduated from Panhandle Agricultural and Mechanical College in Goodwell, OK. She also attended West Texas State University and later received a Master’s Degree in Library Science from The University of Oklahoma.  Alice taught in Stratford, TX, Arnett, Ok and eventually White Deer, TX as the district Librarian.

Later she decided to get her certification in Spanish and drove nights and attended summer sessions at West Texas State University in Canyon, TX. She spent time in Mexico living in a family’s home to be immersed in the language. She was the first Spanish teacher at White Deer High School. She retired from the district in May 1994.

Alice enjoyed traveling to California to spend time with her parents. She loved adventures and to share her memories of her trip to Peru and her kayaking expedition in the Sea of Cortez off Baja California. She took many trips to Mexico, and cherished her memories of ocean cruises with friends.

She and Kenneth lived at Lake Tanglewood for 7 years after retirement where her kids and grandchildren loved to visit. They later moved to Panhandle, TX closer to the grandchildren and their activities. After becoming a widow, she moved to Amarillo and enjoyed attending the theater, especially productions at Amarillo Little Theater. She regularly attended Music in the Gardens during the summers at the Amarillo Botanical Gardens where she was avid member and supporter.

Alice was a member of the Texas Retired Teachers Association, the Venado Blanco Study Club while in White Deer, and Senior Citizens while in Panhandle. She loved her line-dancing group, painting, and crafts with friends while at Lake Tanglewood.

Alice was preceded in death by her loving parents, her husband, Kenneth Cox, her eldest son, Randy Cox, and her daughter, Kendra Cox.

Alice is survived by her sister, Mary Jane Williams of Oakland, California; her son, Keith and wife Tamra of Borger, TX;  her daughter, Barbra and husband Shawn of White Deer, TX; 6 grandchildren, Kyle Cox, Kasey Murray, Ashley McMurry Aubrey Englund, Shea Craig, Trevor Craig, Elaine Woods; and 6 great-grandchildren, and one on the way.

Alice would be proud for any memorials to be sent to City Church Outreach Ministry, 205 S. Polk Street, Amarillo, TX 79101.

  2. I am so sorry for your loss of Alice. She was one-of-a-kind. She was a cruise mate on several cruises, we loved line dancing, and a travel mate on several road trips. However as years moved along we lost touch, each being involved in family life. I am so sorry I missed her during these last times. No doubt she is looking to the next trip, that being up among the angels. Rejoice in your memories.

  7. Alice was such a sweet person. When my husband was ill she brought research of his issue and offered words of encouragement!!
