John George O’Brien died at home Friday morning, Feb. 24, 2012.
Services will be Sunday, Feb. 26, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at the O’Brien Family Cemetery at the LIT Ranch, north of Boys Ranch. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Johnny O’Brien was born 7/17/17 in Hereford, Texas, to Will and Exie O’Brien. After graduating from Amarillo High, he attended Texas A&M and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Education by WT A&M in 2010. He returned home from A&M to work in the oil field and then enlisted in the Navy to serve in WWII. He married Mary Paul, who preceded him in death in 1985. He later married Pat Norris, who preceded him in death in 2010. An Amarillo businessman, mainly in oil and gas, O’Brien was also an avid bridge player and fisherman.
Johnny is survived by sons, Bill and wife Alice, Jay and wife Susie and a daughter Fay Moore and husband Bobby; a sister, Peggy Watson; seven grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. A special thanks to the loving caregivers; Renee Cheshire, Anna Ortiz, Lisa Tucek, Junette Lovato, Margaret Anderson, Guadalupe Reyes and longtime administrative assistant, Lori Peterson.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to Opportunity School, 1100 S. Harrison St., Amarillo, TX 79101; the Presbyterian Children’s Home, 3400 S. Bowie St., Amarillo, TX 79109; or to a favorite charity.
