William “Bill” Elliot Knebusch

William Elliot Knebusch of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on January 11, 2024. William (Bill) was born to Donald and Jean Knebusch at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Born into a military family, Bill lived in many different places, traveled the world, and for a time resided in Ankara, Turkey. At the age of nineteen, Bill enlisted in the United States Army and became a Chief Warrant Officer, serving as a helicopter pilot in Vietnam. When Bill’s tour in Vietnam ended, he then served in the South Carolina National Guard and attended the College of Charleston. He transferred from Charleston to Sul Ross State University in Alpine, Texas, graduating with a Bachelor’s of Science in Geology. Bill trained further in his field through graduate work at the University of Texas at El Paso.

Bill’s career in the oil and gas industry spanned over forty years, and included both domestic and international locations. After retirement, Bill became a dedicated member of The Volley for Veterans Honor Guard, until his health did not permit him to continue.

Bill was a faithful man, who loved the Lord, his family, church, and country. His strength, courage, and bravery were apparent to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Jan, of almost fifty years, as well as his children: Misty (King) Hodson, Levi (Shannon) Knebusch, and Leila (Greg) Farber; thirteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild. Two of the grandchildren, Madison Knebusch and Titan Farber, preceded him in death.

A memorial will be held at Westview Christian Church in Amarillo on January 26, 2024, at 2:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Coffee Memorial Blood Center.
