Wendell Roy Moore

Wendell Roy Moore, 93, of Vega, TX died Thursday, July 28, 2022.

Services will be at 3:00 p.m., Monday, August 1, 2022, at First Baptist Church, Vega, TX with Rev. Brian Hevrin officiating.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Vega, TX.

Wendell was born September 21, 1928, in Duke, OK to Lee Roy and Ocie Mae (Franks) Moore.  He earned his BA in horticulture at Western Oklahoma State University in Altus, OK.  In 1953, he was drafted into the US Army and was a scout dog trainer during the Korean Conflict.  Following his military service, he farmed in Jackson County, OK until 1973, when he moved to Vega, TX where he gained respect from his neighbors and peers by doing honest, good business, and growing his farming and cattle operations to be one of the best in the area. Wendell was a Baptist.

Wendell’s legacy will live on through the wisdom, wit, advice, and political arguments that was shared on many mornings at breakfast over a hot cup of black coffee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Berniece Powell.

Wendell is survived by his dog, Mugsy; stepdaughter, René Vogler and husband Tim, of Vega, TX, and her children, Alysha Meade, of Joplin, MO, and Derrick Mapes, of Smith Center, KS; step-grandson, Wesley Ainsworth, of McPherson, KS; his business partner of 25 years, Klay Waters and wife Katti, of Abilene, TX; brother, Bob Moore and wife Lana, of Quanah, TX, and their children, Mitzi and Mary; and nephews, Ricky, Randy, Roger, and Ronnie Powell.

Viewing will be at 1:00 p.m., until service time on Monday, August 1, 2022, at the church.
