Wanda Perkins

Wanda Smith Perkins of Amarillo, Texas went to her heavenly home on Sunday, March 2, 2025 at the age of 97.

The family will receive friends from 6-8:00 pm, Thursday, March 6, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Private burial will be officiated by Rev. Curtis Redmon. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. 

Wanda was born on May 22, 1927, in Dahlonega, Georgia to her parents Fred and Vera Brown Smith. She married the love of her life Sam A. Perkins on March 31, 1945. He preceded her in death in April 2002.

Wanda worked as a bookkeeper at the Amarillo Club for many years until her retirement. She taught the ladies Sunday School class at Eastridge Baptist Church into her 90's until Covid in 2020. She spent many hours preparing her lessons and loved reading her Bible.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Sam; 4 sisters, Edith Smith, Lorene Newman, Lotis Smith, and Christine DeGregorio; and 1 brother, Jack Smith.

Survivors include 2 sons, Derrill (Delores) Perkins of Amarillo and Chester Perkins, McMinnville, OR.; 2 grandsons, Glyn (Rae) Perkins and Micah (Hope) Perkins of Amarillo; 6 great-grandchildren, Leah, Taylor, Kayla, Lauren, Lilly, Danni and 1 great-grandson, Saber; brother, Earl Smith of El Paso; sister-in-love, Helen Nunn; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Gentiva Hospice and their caring nurses for their compassion and care. We appreciate you all.
