She was born on June 11, 1932, in Portales, NM, to Hattie and Ira Alford. She is the youngest of 6. She graduated from Portales High School. Square dancing in Amarillo led her to meet the love of her life. She married Woody Paulhamus on May 1, 1954, and they were married for 59 years before he passed in 2013. She babysat kids in her home for 20+ years. She enjoyed camping at the lake, and her and Woody ran one of the first “food trucks” at auctions around the area. She was competitive. Canasta and 42 were her games of choice. She carried her love for family-game time over to her kids and grandkids, and there was never a gathering where she did not bring “the game briefcase.”
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Vega before moving back to Amarillo in 2010 when she became a member of Arden Road Baptist Church. Her goal in life was to love Jesus fiercely, and make sure others know Him and learn to love Him as well. She wants to see everyone again someday. We know she is rejoicing with Him today.
Her family was her greatest treasure. The last few years when we were all together, she would look around and say, “I can’t believe I started all this!”
She was preceded in death by her parents and 5 siblings, her husband, Woody, and great-granddaughter, Raigan Tucker.
She is survived by her son, Kirk Paulhamus, and his wife Sandy; daughter Susan Flow and her husband Floyd, daughter Debbie Detten and her husband Jody, all of Amarillo; grandkids, Stacy, Josh, Cory, Rikki, Chris, and Cody; great-grandkids, Noah, Trevor, Elizabeth, Izzy, Brayden, Brylee, Aidan, Gudmunder, and Elijah; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-6:30 p.m., Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home in Amarillo, TX.
