Walter E. Brinson, 86, of Amarillo, TX passed away July 17, 2024.
Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, July 20, 2024 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Walter was born April 26, 1938 in Brownfield, TX to L.T. and Tennie Frances Brinson. He graduated from Brownfield High School in 1956 and married Marcia Dell Dunn. He then proudly served in the United States National Guard. Walter managed Furrs Supermarket and in later years, became an independent food broker in the grocery industry. After retirement, Walter enjoyed scroll woodworking, gardening, fishing, telling stories, and peppermint candy! He loved cruising around in his golfcart and being with his grandsons, they were always up to something! Gamenight would get very competitive at the Brinson home. He was caught cheating on several occasions with a “good” hand of marbles or dominos!
He was ordained as a deacon at Parkview Baptist Church in Littlefield before moving to San Angelo. Walter was also a Gideon and Sunday School Teacher.
He was preceded in death by his parents, L.T. and Tennie Brinson; brothers, Theo Brinson and James Brinson; and several nieces and nephews.
Walter is survived by his wife of 67 years, Marcia Brinson; sisters, Doris Fletcher and Dixie Jones; children, Shellie Garcia and husband Michael, and Rodney Brinson and wife Karen; grandchildren, Paul Turman and wife Heather, Gabriel Gunnels, Jonathan Brinson and wife Caitlin, Kathryn, Brinson, and Hadley Turman; and great-grandchildren, Aspen, Draigen, and Zayne.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 7:30 pm on Friday, July 19, 2024 at the funeral home.
