Vonita Saunders, 81, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, June 19, 2012.
Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 22, 2012 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Dr. Burt Palmer, pastor of Polk Street United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Mrs. Saunders was born Oct. 30, 1930 in Wellington to Kay and Maria Gulley. She married Gene Saunders on Feb. 28, 1952 in Clovis, New Mexico. Mrs. Saunders worked for 38 years for Southwestern Bell Telephone. She was a member of Pioneers Club; she grew up at International Organization of Odd Fellows in Corsicana. Mrs. Saunders was a member of Polk Street United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Gene Saunders, of Amarillo; two sons, Doug Saunders and wife Cathy and James Saunders and wife Paula, all of Amarillo; a sister, Bennye Cummings of Green River, Wyoming; twin sister, Donita Summers of Moore, Oklahoma; and six grandchildren, Aaron, Callie, Timothy, Terriann, Jackie and Laura.
The family suggests memorials to Polk Street United Methodist Church, 1401 South Polk Street Amarillo, TX 79101; or to IOOF, 3440 West Second Ave., Corsicana TX 75110.
