Virginia Lea Moore

Virginia Lea Moore, 77, of Amarillo, died Friday, September 13, 2024.

Services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Temple Baptist Church, Dumas, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Dumas, 500 N. Maddox. 

Virginia was born on November 6, 1946, in West Palm Beach, Florida to Virginia (Mars) and Robert James Wood. 

She graduated high school from Waterford High School in Waterford, CT. Virginia received her LVN license in Connecticut and her RN from Boise State University in Boise, Idaho. She began her nursing career at Lawrence Memorial Hospital in New London, CT, where she was promoted to head nurse. Her nursing career included jobs in Connecticut, Idaho, and Texas (Amarillo and Dumas), retiring from Moore County Hospital in Dumas, Texas. 

She faced many challenges in her life-time from being hit and towed 2 blocks by a dump truck when she was a young child and receiving a major head injury to having her kidney removed 6 weeks after her daughter’s birth. 

Nothing made her happier than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as-well-as, helping people when they were sick. 

She loved to read cowboy romance and Amish books and playing Bingo. She also had a love for SYFY movies. 

She was greeted at the heavenly gates by her parents, two sisters, Mary Lee and Barbara Lusa and nephew, Jimmy Wood. 

Left to cherish her memory are daughter, Angie Jordan and husband Nick; sons, Robert Lynn and Casey Moore and wife Neely; grandchildren, Brieanne Jordan and Brittney, Skyler Jordan and wife Lauren, Lyssa Newlin and husband Kyle, and Alex Barrett; great-grandchildren, Kennedy Jordan and Brayden Miller; sister, Martha Bixby and boyfriend Tom; and her beloved nieces and nephews.
