On March 29th, 2018, surrounded by her family, our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, Virgina Lee Gallaway, departed this earth and walked peacefully into the loving arms of Jesus.
Virginia Gallaway was born in Delhi, Oklahoma to George and Lula Kelley. At the age of 4 her family moved to Erick, Oklahoma where she graduated from Erick High School. She loved sports and played basketball, tennis and ran track. She loved the Dallas Cowboys and the Texas Rangers and attended many games.
She retired from the Amarillo Independent School District (AISD) after 35 years of service. She was the only woman who held the position of Director of Purchasing for the school district.
She was awarded the Selby Trophy for service to Young People. After retirement, she served 2 years as a volunteer in Service to America, and volunteered as Buchanan Mission for 12 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Lula Kelley and two sisters Peggy Williams, and Lucille Willoughby.
Survivors include two daughters, Beverly Wilson and husband Jimmy, Terry Gallaway, and one son Steven Gallaway and wife Cheryl. Three grandchildren: Whitney Schlesener and husband Tim, Jarrod Wilson and wife Katy, and Cameron Barber, seven great-grandchildren, Macy Thompson and husband James, Kelsey Busboom, Katelyn Wilson, Madison Wilson, Haley Wilson, Parker Bailey and Ashley Wilson, two great-great-children, Taygen Thompson and Hadley Thompson, and her many friends.
A private family service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to your favorite charity in honor of Virginia.
