Victor Wayne “Vic” Shawgo, 81, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on March 23, 2023.

Memorial services will be at 2:00 P.M., Friday, March 31, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Murray Gossett officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.  Family visitation will be Thursday, March 30, 2023, from 5-7pm at 7410 New England Pkwy.

Vic was born in Borger, Texas on September 5, 1941, to Connie and Victor Shawgo. He grew up in Amarillo, Texas and was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church. He attended Wolflin Elementary, Austin Junior High, and graduated from Amarillo High School in the class of 1959. Victor attended the University of Texas and West Texas State University. Vic married Mary Kaye Dolan in 1964. He became an instant big brother to Mary Kaye’s five siblings and loved being a big brother to them along with his younger brother, Dickie. In his younger years, he loved drag racing and would work on cars during the week and race them on Sundays. He worked in sales and management for 50 years at various automobile and motorcycle dealerships in Amarillo, and at Jack Sisemore Traveland. He was gifted in taking care of clients and helping them find exactly what they wanted or needed. He acquired his private pilots license in 1981 and also earned his instrument rating and twin engine license and continued to fly for many years. Victor loved being outdoors. Water skiing at Lake Tanglewood was a weekly family event and he enjoyed snow skiing at Angel Fire and Sipapu, New Mexico during the winter. In the summertime, he loved vacationing at Pearl Lakes Trout Club in Colorado with family. He also enjoyed fly fishing, golf, and tennis. Most of all, Vic was very devoted to his family, and his world revolved around them. Mary Kaye and Vic had two daughters, Vickie and Cherie. He was an exceptional father instilling in his girls a strong, honest, never give-up attitude toward life in a loving way.

One of his greatest joys in life was spending time with his grandchildren Ella, Ann, and Miles. Vic was a patient, kind-hearted man who loved helping family and friends with whatever they needed. Even though Alzhemier’s stole his mind, his gentle, sweet spirit remained until the very end. Special thanks to Mary Carrasco and staff and BSA Hospice for their excellent, loving care. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Amarillo or the Alzheimer’s Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Victor O. Shawgo and Connie Shawgo Park; stepfather, Chester J. Park; and brother, Richard Don Shawgo.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Kaye Shawgo; daughter, Vickie Morrison and husband Brad Morrison; daughter, Cherie Sanders and husband Patrick Sanders; grandchildren, Ella Sanders, Ann Sanders Young and husband Bryce Young, and Miles Sanders; nephew, Eric Shawgo; and niece, Sara Shawgo.
