It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Twylla Mae (Hay) Buchanan, 84, a beloved mother and grandmother who went to be with Jesus on December 3, 2024.
To commemorate her incredible journey and to celebrate the love she shared, a memorial service will be held in her honor at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 16, 2024, at Trinity Fellowship Church in the Student Ministry Center. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.
Twylla was born on July 22, 1940, in Hollis, Oklahoma, to Lillian Versie (Treadway) and Garrel A. Hay. She graduated from Hollis High School.
Throughout her life, Twylla worked a variety of jobs, each for about a decade, including roles at Amarillo ISD’s Coronado Elementary, Blackburns, Park Place Towers, and the Airport Gift Shop, where she enjoyed working alongside family members.
In 1960, Twylla married Bruce Dean Buchanan, in Amarillo, Texas. Together, they had two sons. She was a dedicated mother in caring for Ty and Tac. Twylla’s devotion to her family didn’t stop there. She went on to raise her two oldest grandchildren, Colton and Nikita. Her family was her greatest joy, and she dedicated her life to loving and supporting them in every way possible. Twylla always made sure her family knew they were loved, constantly checking in on them and offering help whenever needed. Her love was selfless, and her home a place of comfort where no one left hungry. Even her dogs were treated like family and enjoyed the same care and attention.
Twylla was a member of Paramount Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Versie and Garrel Hay; her husband, Bruce Dean Buchanan; her brothers, Donald, Orville, Carrol Gene, and Jay “JH”; and her sisters, Darlene, Betty, and Arvella.
Twylla is survived by her two sons, Nolan Ty Buchanan and Michael Tac Buchanan and wife Susan; her grandchildren, Nikita Buchanan, Colton Buchanan and wife Kakki, and Annelise Buchanan; her great-granddaughters, Kayda Wilson and Banks Mae Buchanan; and those like family, Robin Watson, Heaven Watson, and countless nieces, nephews and friends who will continue to honor her memory by living with the kindness, strength, and resilience she had shown.
Twylla’s love and care for her family were unparalleled. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion, selflessness, and unwavering support that will be treasured by all who knew her.
