Tom Harkey, 79, of Claude, died Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014.
Memorial services will be at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014, in the United Methodist Church in Claude. Pastors, Dan Carter and Buddy Payne will lead the celebration of life. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers at Claude.
Tom was born Sept. 27, 1934, in Crystal City. He earned degrees from Tarleton State College, Texas Tech University, and West Texas State University. He was an educator, both as a teacher and an administrator, who touched many lives. He was a life-long active member of the Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was a Mason.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Martha Harkey, a brother, H.L. “Sonny” Harkey, two nephews, Wayne Harkey and Hal Harkey.
Survivors include his wife of 54 plus years, Joyce Church Harkey; a son, Gary Don Harkey and wife Betsy of Vernon; a daughter, Joyce Lynn Grange and husband Chad of Amarillo; grandchildren include Mindi Grange Knocke and husband Brian of Jenks, OK, Matthew Grange of Lubbock and Logan Harkey of Canyon, two great-granddaughters, Adison and Bella Knocke of Jenks, OK. Extended family includes sister-in-law, Annette Harkey of Crystal City; a nephew, Marty Harkey of Crystal City; a niece, Joyce Winn and husband Pete of Uvalde; and other family and friends.
The family will greet guests at the Methodist Family Life Center, 400 Trice St., in Claude immediately following the memorial service.
