Thelma "Jean" Zint Hughes – December 24, 2016

hughes-obit-picThelma “Jean” Zint Hughes, 83, of Amarillo, went to her heavenly home on Saturday, Dec. 24, 2016.

Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, in South Lawn Baptist Church with Pastor Greg Kinch and Pastor David Veazey officiating.  Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Jean was born May 24, 1933, in Parnell, Texas to Hollis and Stella Hale. She grew up in the Childress and Estelline area and moved to California during High School, but then returned back to Childress.

Jean married Calvin B. Zint in Lawton, Oklahoma on April 29, 1950, while he was on leave from the Army.

One of Jean’s desires in life was to get married and have children, in which she accomplished both, after marriage, she had five children.  Jean loved to shop and could out shop any of her kids at any time.  She was a beautiful lady and always wanted to look her best, no matter where she was going.  Jean loved pretty things to wear and to decorate her home.

She and Calvin owned Jean’s Ice Cream Company for 45 years.  She was a member of South Lawn Baptist Church.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years in October of 2000.

In January of 2005, Jean married Bobby Hughes.

Jean was also preceded in death by her parents, Hollis and Stella Hale; two sisters, Jimmie Dawn Hale and Ramona Bennett, and her husband, Calvin Zint.

She is survived by her husband, Bobby Hughes; a brother, Bill Hale of Oklahoma; two sons, Wayne Zint and wife Laura of Amarillo and Dale Zint and wife Randi of Oklahoma; three daughters, Linda Ritchey and husband Alan of Amarillo, LaQuita Bullard and husband, Victor of Oklahoma, Charlotte Kinch and husband Greg, of Amarillo; 11 grandkids; and 11 great-grandkids.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2016, at the funeral home.

    Dear Charlotte and Greg,
    We are so sorry for your loss but rejoice with you that this is not an ending but the beginning of her eternal life with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We can find comfort that we will all be reunited in time to praise the Lord together for all eternity.We pray that you can find comfort in His word and the thoughts of family and friends.

    I have so many special memories of Mrs. Zint. From sleeping outside in her backyard as a kid, to driving one of her many ice-cream trucks, eating very good home-cooked meals at her table, she gave really good hugs always !
