Terry Lee Crowley

Terry Lee Crowley passed from life to life eternal on Friday, May 12, 2023. A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, on Saturday,

August 19, 2023, at 2:00 pm, in conjunction with a family reunion this summer. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors 2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, Texas 79109.

Terry was born on October 20, 1951, in Clovis, NM to Ernest Lee and Daisy Marie Wyatt Crowley. Terry was their third of four children. The family moved to Carlsbad when Terry was little, where his father worked in the potash industry.

Terry spent his growing-up years in Carlsbad, graduating from Carlsbad Senior High School in 1970. He would go on to attend New Mexico State University and Amarillo College, graduating with a degree in design and drafting.  Shortly thereafter, Terry began his lifelong career with Southwestern Public Service Company in Amarillo where he worked for 43 years as a draftsman, helping design substations all over New Mexico and West Texas. During his career, he eagerly helped lead SPS from “pencil and paper drawings” into the digital CAD era. Terry retired from SPS in 2016.

About the same time he was getting started in a career, he was also getting a family started. Terry married Susan Jeanette Clark on August 18, 1973, a union blessed by God’s grace that has proven their promises for just a few months short of 50 years.

Terry loved his work and loved his family, especially his grandchildren. He leaves many good memories of times with his family, playing cards, eating Mexican food, or Elmo’s hamburgers with a root beer, or going to the sand drags or races. An avid Volkswagen enthusiast, there was nothing Terry enjoyed more than Saturday nights at Route 66 Motor Speedway, watching the races and partaking of the Speedway’s special “Cheeseburger  cheeseburger,  HOT fried taters, and an ice cold Coca-Cola!”

Terry was also a big NASCAR fan and loved watching Westerns and Harry Potter movies.   In his younger years, he also enjoyed fishing and bowling. Terry loved telling stories and was known to embellish and exaggerate a bit, blurring the line between his version and what

really

happened. Once he got going it was hard to stop him!

A lot of words might describe Terry Crowley. He was a good and kind man, always willing to help anyone in need. He was resourceful and persistent; when things didn’t work out, his go-to mantra was LTT, “Let’s try

this

.” An artistic, detailed, and precise man–owing to his work–he also knew how to relax and have fun, coloring “outside the lines” with a mischievous and ornery side that crept out from time to time. He was loving and huggable, friendly and humble. This unique man with his quiet and gentle soul will be greatly missed.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law Joe Adams and Michael Guest.

He is survived by his wife Susan of the home, one daughter, Katie Corbet and her husband Johnnie, and one son, Gregory Crowley and his wife Jamie of Amarillo, TX. He is also survived by his siblings: Sandy Guest of Albuquerque, NM; Ernie Crowley and his wife Rhadonna of Albuquerque; and Brian Crowley and his wife Janet of Brookfield Wisconsin.Other survivors include his brother-in-law Larry Clark and his wife Marcia of Alamogordo, NM, his sisters-in-law, Phyllis Adams of Artesia, NM; Pamela Haley and her husband Mike of Round Rock, TX; and Emily Reay and her husband Scott of Peoria, AZ. Terry was proud “Papa” to seven grandchildren: Magnolia, Averie, Merryn, Margaux, Jace, Devin, and Shadin. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
