Teresa Trayler Richards, 74, of Amarillo, TX died on November 5, 2022.
Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at First Christian Church. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Teresa was born on August 5, 1948, in Dalhart, TX to parents Dan and Mabel Trayler. She married Doug Richards on February 21, 1969.
Twenty-three years after graduating from Dumas High School, Teresa went back to college as a part-time student. Still working part-time and being a full-time wife and mother. She graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a degree in Organizational Communication and a minor in Accounting. Her career path followed the minor as she became an Accounting Manager for Crescent Real Estate Equities and worked for that company in Ft. Worth, TX for over 16 years.
Teresa loved music and learned to play the piano at an early age. She played the piano in church then learned to play the organ while in high school. She continued to play in churches for 60 years. In addition to playing the piano, she had a beautiful alto voice and sang in choirs when she was not playing piano or organ. Teresa was a member of the handbell choir and chancel choir at First Christian Church in Amarillo. She especially enjoyed listening to and singing Southern Gospel music. She sang in duets, trios, and quartets for 60 years as well. Teresa was an active member of any church she attended. She and Doug are Elders Emeritus of Rush Creek Christian in Arlington, TX and she was a serving Elder at FCC in Amarillo. In addition, she was very active in Christian Women’s Fellowship and numerous church groups.
Teresa enjoyed cooking and was a great cook. It gave her joy to cook for the family and especially gave her joy teaching her grandchildren how to cook and prepare meals. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports from the time they were 5 years old.
She is survived by her husband, Doug Richards; son, Roger Richards and wife Jessica of Amarillo, TX; and grandchildren, Alexis, Keaton, and Austin all of Amarillo, TX. In addition to her immediate family, she is survived by her brother-in-law, Randy Richards and wife Sharon of Leander, TX; sister-in-law, Vola Loya of McLean, TX; cousins, Glenda Gunn, Alfred Trayler, and Duane Trayler; nieces, Shaina, Tamara, Amanda, and Darcee; nephews, Brandon, Chad, and Joshua; and many more additional family members.
