Ted Martin Davis

Ted Martin Davis, 91, passed away January 14, 2023. He was born December 9, 1931 in O’Donnell Texas to Philip A. and Lillian Ethel (Blewett) Davis.  He was the youngest of three brothers, James Preston, Blewett and Thomas Dalton Davis.

Growing up Ted went to school in Whitharrel, Texas and San Francisco, California, graduating from Floydada, Texas in 1950.  Ted served in the United States Army, earning an honorable discharge from the 7

Artillery Battalion in Korea and Germany.

He met Doris Naomi Williams in Abernathy Texas. They were married in 1954; enjoying 65 years together until her death in December, 2019.  They were blessed with two children, Deborah Elayne in 1955 and Terry Glen in 1958.

Ted was employed with Diamond Shamrock Oil and Gas Corporation for 37 years, in Abernathy, Texas; Albuquerque, New Mexico and Dumas, Texas.  Ted and Doris enjoyed retirement years in Bella Vista, Arkansas; Sun City West and Sun City Grand, Arizona; Edmond, Oklahoma and finally at Inverness Village in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Ted was active in youth groups, Little League baseball, Boy Scouts, and 4-H. He was an active member and volunteer with the Dumas Texas Lions Club, New Song Methodist Church in Surprise, AZ and Village Treasures at Inverness Village in Tulsa.  Ted enjoyed family and friends, hunting, fishing golfing, and volunteer work. He was an active 91-year who walked daily, read extensively, was in-tune with current events and worked Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles.  He was still driving and visiting Walmart frequently to buy his groceries and was managing his finances. He was an amazing role model of kindness, with a quick sense of humor aging well, and living independently.

Ted is preceded in death by his parents and brothers, his wife Doris, and son Terry. He is survived by daughter Deborah and husband Jeff, grandson Justin Burton and wife Megan; niece Sandy Sumner and nephew Mickey Davis.

Honoring Dad’s wishes there is no formal service. Inurnment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens, Dumas, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox.
