Susan Celeste Boone Perrin

August 10, 1948 — November 5, 2024

Susan Celeste Boone Perrin was born on August 10, 1948 and passed away on November 5, 2024 in her home in Amarillo, Texas.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Murray Gossett as officiant. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

She was born in Columbia, South Carolina to Giles Minchin Boone and Evelyn Koeneman Boone. They relocated to Olney, Texas where her father worked for the American Red Cross and then moved to Dallas where she graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School. Susan attended Columbia College in South Carolina before transferring to Texas Tech University in her sophomore year where she completed a bachelor’s degree in education. During her first year at Tech, she met John Perrin, fell in love and married the summer after Susan graduated from Tech in July 1970. Her teaching career began in Lubbock while John finished his master’s degree then they moved to Austin where she taught elementary school while John worked for the state. From there they moved back to West Texas so John could work with his dad on the family farm. Susan taught in Adrian, Texas and soon became a mother to two lovely daughters. She spent the early years of her daughter’s childhood with them on the farm and working alongside John. Susan began a great relationship with her friend Pam who was also from the Dallas metroplex, and they spent many hours on the phone as they navigated farm life and motherhood together.

Susan returned to teaching at Hereford Junior High in 1991. She taught a variety of subjects and enjoyed supporting reading and helping students who were most in need. She chaperoned several student trips to Washington DC. Her ever-present passion for education led her to the role of principal at Hereford Junior High. She retired from Education in 2010.

Susan loved her family so well. Always supporting Sarah and Amy, attending all their games, shows and events, graduations and moves. She was most proud to be Soodie to her 4 grandchildren and was their biggest fan, eagerly attending all their activities and spending as much time as possible having fun watching them play and grow. With every hug, you knew you were loved. Susan was also the best partner to John in marriage, in family and in business. She was always available for moving farm equipment, running to get a part, delivering food and later working beside him at the meat market.

Susan served her community on the Walcott School Board, L’Allegra Study Club, Deaf Smith County Historical Society, church committees, and College of Education Advisory Council at Texas Tech University. She gave blood every opportunity she had, which in turn touched more people and continued her legacy of helping those in need.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Giles and Evelyn Boone. She is survived by her husband John, daughters Sarah Parsons (David) and Amy Richardson (Todd), and her grandchildren Giles, Boone and Georgia Richardson and Celeste Parsons.
