Sheryl Lynn Mackey

Sheryl Lynn Mackey, 62, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

 A memorial service will be at 10:00 A.M, Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Trinity Lutheran Church. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd., Amarillo, Texas.

Sheryl Lynn Mackey was born to James E. and Sharon L. Ackley in Garden City, Kansas on February 25th, 1963. An absolute joy to her parents, she enjoyed family camping trips, fishing, choir and outings to the family farm where she loved spending time with her grandparents and onery cousins. She met the love of her life, Brett Mackey, on his birthday in 1990. They eloped with close family and friends shortly after on June 30th, 1990, sharing 35 years together in love and friendship. They began their own family with the birth of their only daughter, Katie, in 1991. Sheryl found her true passion in life when she began working at Trinity Lutheran Childcare in Amarillo, Tx. She firmly believed in the mission of bringing all children to Christ through loving education, and continued to live that mission even after her physical disabilities took her away from her duties as director. May Sheryl be remembered for her fierce love and dedication to her family, especially her granddaughter, Madilyn, and her unending faith in the Lord. She lived her life for her family, for her church, and the countless lives of the children under her care. A loving wife, devoted mother, proud “Gammaw”, loving daughter and servant of God, Sheryl will truly be missed by all who loved her.

She is proceeded in death by her father James E. Ackley.

Survived by her husband Brett Mackey of Amarillo, Tx. Daughter Katie and Steven Barber and granddaughter Madilyn Barber of Canyon, Tx. Her mother Sharon Ackley of Amarillo, Tx. Her Brother Alan Ackley, 3 nephews, Cameron and wife Courtney Ackley and their children Colton and Harper, Aaron Ackley, Nathan and wife Melinda Ackley.
