Saundra Charlene Mccright

Saundra Charlene “Charli” & “Nana” McCright, 79, of Vega, Texas passed away peacefully on August 23, 2023.

She was born November 2, 1943. Originally from Hamlin, Texas, she was the middle sister of 6 girls. She married William Jerry McCright on September 1, 1960. They had three children, Todd, Tim, and JuLee. They lived in Roby, Texas and she farmed, did carpenter work, and was a butcher all while raising her 3 children. They later moved to Gallup, New Mexico where she owned a daycare and worked in the Gallup McKinnley County School District. She and Jerry then returned to Clovis, New Mexico where she taught Montessori School and remained until 1990, when they moved to Vega, Texas. She commuted daily to Clovis Community College and earned an associate’s degree in Psychology. She was employed by the State mental health department and cared for mentally challenged adults.

Charlene loved people and was a friend and caregiver not only to her family but many others as well. She opened her doors to anyone that was down on their luck. She believed in positivity and happiness and spread her joy wherever she went and to whom ever she met. She had an intoxicating smile and she loved her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren beyond measure, constantly spreading her happiness and “candy bowl.” No one that entered her door left before being given a snack and a drink. She loved working in the yard, planting flowers and had a green thumb that could grow anything.

Charlene was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years Jerry McCright, her parents, four sisters, a nephew Toney Mitchell, and a great niece Marie Stevens.

She is survived by her sons, Todd McCright of Kirtland, New Mexico, Tim McCright and wife Whitney of Amarillo, Texas; her daughter, Julee Galbraith and husband Raymon of Vega, Texas; one sister, Lynda Smith of Farmington, New Mexico; her grandchildren, Justin McCright of Azle, Texas, Jaytin McCright and wife Paige of Amarillo, Texas, Trey Galbraith and wife Teage of Amarillo, Texas, Trevor Galbraith of Amarillo, Texas, Trenton Galbraith and wife Chelsea of Vega, Texas, KyLee Bookout and husband Trey of Amarillo, Texas, Trista McCright, Tanner McCright and Tyler McCright of Farmington, New Mexico; 8 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews and many friends. She will be missed by all. The family suggests memorials be to the Vega EMS.
