Sara was born June 30, 1937 in Liberal, KS to H.R. and Bonnie Packebush. The family moved to Dumas where Sara started school. She graduated from Dumas High School in 1955. Many of her classmates were lifetime friends. Her class reunions were top priority. She married Joe Pat Mowery in 1955, and together had two daughters raising them in Dumas. In 1983, she married John McFarren, formerly of Stinnett, TX. They stayed busy playing golf, camping, fishing, and playing cards with great friends. Sara was a member of First Baptist Church. She also sang in the choir for several years. Sara loved to sing!
Sara worked at various businesses in Dumas some of which were First State Bank, North Plains Savings and Loan, Stidham Insurance, Diamond Shamrock, Dumas Junior High School, and Dumas Crisis Pregnancy Center. Wherever you saw Sara, you were met with her beautiful smile and a servant’s heart.
Sara’s greatest joy came from her family and especially her grandchildren. She cherished her time with them, teaching them to play SKIP-BO, put puzzles together, board games, and always enjoyed a bowl of ice cream together. She was their greatest fan when they began playing their sports.
Alzheimer’s disease stole many things from Sara over the years. However, her sweet spirit, tender heart, laughter, and love for others was always present. She was a beautiful soul.
She is preceded in death by her husband John McFarren; parents; and her brother, Dean Packebush.
Sara is survived by her two daughters, Kelly Satterfield (Darall) of Dumas, and Karla McCallie (Brent) of Pottsboro, TX; three grandchildren, Kara Owens (Roger) of Tulsa, OK, Lacy Hugg (Shawn) of Dumas, TX, and Cade McCallie (Katie Beth) of San Antonio, TX; two great-grandchildren, Nona and Darla Grace Owens of Tulsa, OK; and extended family, stepson, Robin McFarren of Fort Worth, TX; and stepdaughter, Veda Thomas (Todd) of Piedmont, OK and their families.
