While in Austin she was on the Cheer Squad at McCallum HS, a lifeguard and model. She attended the University of Texas at Austin and worked at the Texas Capitol. Sandra later worked in Washington D.C. for the then US House of Representative from the Austin area. After returning to Dallas Texas in the late 1950’s, Sandra modeled for the Kim Dawson Agency before becoming an Executive Assistant to renowned oil and gas "wildcatter" Mayer B (Duke) Rudman.

Sandra moved to Amarillo in the late 1960’s and worked for AAA Travel and Jack Fuqua Insurance. She proudly served for many years on the State Bar of Texas District Grievance and Ethics Committee. Sandra also contributed her time to many other Texas and Panhandle charitable organizations.

Sandra was a naturalist at heart and understood the importance of trees in the Panhandle. She and Miles are responsible for hundreds of trees planted at the LX Ranch and those planted at Childers Park, the private field enjoyed by St. Andrew’s Episcopal School and Church. Sandra was the driving force behind the restoration and preservation of the Dugout, Ice House, Spring House, Commissary, Bunkhouse and Main House at the LX Ranch Headquarters. Sandra’s efforts qualified these structures for the National Register of Historic Places. She also expanded the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center seeding program in the Texas Panhandle.

In her lifetime Sandra enjoyed tennis, water and snow skiing, horseback riding, geology, astronomy, genealogy, music, travel and was an avid philatelist (stamp collector). Her travels took her to 6 of the 7 continents and the different cultures and people she encountered had a profound impact on her views of our world.
