Sally Simpson Kritser, 74, passed away on Sunday, May 7, 2023, in Fort Worth, TX, surrounded by her loving family. Sally was a strong and independent woman of strong faith, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and mentor.
Born on June 12, 1948, Sally lived most of her life in Amarillo, TX, where she attended Tascosa High School and Amarillo Community College and later the University of Texas at Austin. Sally married David S. Kritser III in 1973, and she was a devoted partner and caregiver to him for over 40 years. Sally was very active in the lives of her two children, Gentry and John David, and the door to her home was always open and often served as a gathering place for friends and family.
Sally was an active member of the community and enjoyed the challenge of managing large volunteer projects, which included serving as Chairwoman of Fun Fest for the Junior League of Amarillo and leading the fundraising and construction of the St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, where her children attended.
Sally was known for her dry wit and sense of humor, which were uniquely her own. She never hesitated to call it like she saw it, and her friends and family loved her for it. Sally was always there for those she loved, and her friendship and fun touched many lives.
Sally is survived by her two children, her daughter, Gentry King and husband Ron of Fort Worth, TX, and her son, John David “J.D.” Kritser and his wife Shanna of Bend, OR, a brother, George “Skipper” Simpson of Lubbock, TX, as well as her five grandchildren, Clayton and his wife Ceileigh, Sloan, Ellie, Harper, and Jack. Her family will forever cherish her memory and the love she shared with them.
A graveside funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, at 11:00 am, at Llano Cemetery in Amarillo, Texas.
