Ruth Young

September 30, 1924 — August 28, 2024

Ruth Harrison Young was born on September 30, 1924 in San Antonio, Texas and passed away on August 28, 2024 in Amarillo, Texas.

Throughout her long life, Ruth lightened the hearts of all who were blessed to know her. Always ready for adventure, she enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, such as family gatherings, car trips, music, games, and the Dallas Cowboys. Following her retirement from bank bookkeeping, Ruth found great joy in teaching young children at First Baptist Rockwall’s weekday school. She consistently placed her faith in God for all things. Her family took great comfort in knowing she prayed for them daily by name.

Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, Paul; brothers Billy, Guy, Coy and Johnny Harrison; and daughter, Brenda Valentine. She is survived by her daughters, Ruth Ann Jones and Cindy Hampsten; son-in-law and Cindy’s spouse, Jim; her grandchildren Alison Tidmore and spouse, Greg; Amy Atwood and spouse, Kirby; Katherine Hampsten Rodriguez and spouse, Steven; Ellen Hampsten; Erin Moss and spouse, Marty; Ryan McMahan and spouse, Brittani; and Kaitlyn McMahan; her great-grandchildren Kylie, Claire and Jackson Tidmore; Hadley Atwood; and James Rodriguez; her sisters-in-law, Janelle Cook and Mai Harrison; her beloved friend Vickie Dotson; and many more family members and friends whom she considered family.

The family thanks the nurses and staff at The Ware at Park Central for their care for Ruth in her final years.

A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held on Friday, September 6, 2024 at 2:00 PM, at First Baptist Rockwall, 610 S. Goliad, Rockwall, Texas, 75087. The Rev. Jesse Crouch will officiate, and Michael J. Manley will lead music. The memorial will be preceded by a graveside service at 10:00 AM at Laurel Land Memorial Park, 6300 S. R. L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas, 75232.

In honor of Ruth’s joyful spirit, the family requests bright, colorful attire be worn at the services.
