Ruth Serrano was born on December 2, 1958, in Bronx, New York. She was the daughter of Nilvia Serrano. She had 5 children, 4 boys and 1 girl, and was a grandmother to 11 grandchildren and loved her family very much. She was her grandchildren’s biggest fan.
In her younger days, she was very active and loved to be out and hanging with her friends, she loved scary movies, she liked to joke a lot, and she had a crazy temper or so I’ve been told. She loved to read novels and she liked helping people any time she could. She had a bit of a rough upbringing and would often tell me about it and some of the awful things that had happened when she was younger. She was a true survivor and had a lot of battle scars to prove it but she rarely ever let it show how much she had really been through or how much it had affected her until she got into her older years and decided to share with me.
As an adult, she learned to love the Lord and strived to make sure she instilled good morals and values in her children and tried to lead us down the paths that she believed the Lord had designated for us. She loved to travel and sightsee and loved spending time and making memories with her kids. She liked to cook and always made sure she provided for her family, and she made anyone feel like they were family. Any time any of us would bring friends home as kids she would always welcome them and treat them as if they were her own. She never let anyone feel out of place and always tried to show kindness and compassion. She was loud and funny. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren, and she liked teaching them new things and cracking jokes. She loved her animals, and all animals in general, and would go out of her way to help them and care for them if she could. She enjoyed playing games on her phone and loved to kick back, relax and take quiet walks with her pups and enjoyed a quiet life.
Ruth fought her battle with cancer with strength and tenacity for many years, first starting with bladder cancer, then lung cancer, and finally brain cancer. She left her earthly body at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 27, 2022.
She is remembered and survived by her children, Raphael Cruz of New Jersey, Ulysses and his wife Shonda Cruz of Camden, NJ, Elihu Rosa of Craig, CO, Victor Lopez of Amarillo, TX, and Melanie Lopez and husband Jessie Rubio of Amarillo, TX; her 11 grandchildren, Aliyah, Anastasia, Jesus, Kade, Ramsy, Remy, Sebastian, NylaRose, Sophiana, Gideon, and Jared; her close friend, William (Bill) Prestwood; and many other family and friends.
She is very loved and will be dearly missed by everyone and we are blessed to have had as many years with her as we have had.
