RuNell “Rudy” Stitt Coons, 68 of Amarillo died Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Dr. W. Winfred Moore officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
RuNell was born July 11, 1944, in Amarillo. She graduated from Amarillo High School and continued on to receive a Master of Arts degree in Speech from West Texas State University in 1990.
She married David Coons on Aug. 23, 1968; they were married 44 wonderful years.
RuNell worked for McCormick Advertising, KFDA-TV and KAMR-TV, where she worked in advertising. She taught advertising/public relations at WTAMU from 1989 until her retirement in 2003. She was named Professor Emeritus at WTAMU in 2006.
RuNell and David loved to travel. She was on the board of the Texas Panhandle Association of Broadcasters, a Sunday school teacher at First Christian Church and a member of various civic and professional organizations.
She was preceded in death by her mother, LaRue Stitt.
Survivors include her father, Larry Stitt; her husband, David; a daughter, Courtnay Van Why and husband Jeff; a son, Kevin Coons; two grandchildren, Emily and Parker; an aunt, Pat Taylor; and a cousin, Leslie Braddock.
The family suggests memorials be made to West Texas A&M University, 2501 Fourth Ave., Canyon, TX 79016.
