Ruby Dowen Wieners, 63, of Amarillo, TX, went to be with Jesus on February 2, 2025. She passed while surrounded by family and while they were taking communion. Ruby’s life will be celebrated at 1:00 PM, Friday, February 14, 2025 at Messiah's House, 6901 Bell St., Amarillo, TX 79109. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
She was born on January 28, 1962 to Grover and Kathryn Deleta Dowen in Lamar, Colorado. She was a devoted (and very forgiving) Wife and Mother. She met her Husband Rick at Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa and they were married on December 20, 1981 and Had 2 kids, Jesse and Valerie. They moved to Amarillo in 1988 where they built their lives. She worked in dentistry for decades and was also an artist. She was a good Mom but the best Grandma. She loved her grandkids more than anything. Christmas was Grandma’s Season. She loved looking at lights, decorating, creatively wrapping gifts, listening to Christmas music, and She made sure Santa came to visit her house each year and bring each kid something special. She loved Christmas and her joy of Christmas grew with each generation. Her second favorite holiday was the 4th of July. She was a proud American and probably loved Trump too much, ha! She loved watching fireworks, being together, and eating hotdogs from the grill.
She was a true artist. Painting canvases, sewing dresses, knitting stuffed animals, or wrapping gifts- she loved to be creative in all that she did. She loved bright clothes, jewelry, and fun shoes and had way more shoes than any one person needs. She put everyone's needs above her own. She was selfless. She was caring. She was loved.
Our world is broken that she is gone and things sometimes feel dark without her here but we know she is with Jesus and someday we will all be together again.
Ruby is preceded in death by her father, Grover “Sonny” Dowen.
She is Survived by her husband, Rick Wieners; her son Jesse Wieners and wife Karri of Groom, Texas and their kids, Kinzee, Eli, Ava, and Josie; Her daughter Valerie Massie and husband Brad of Amarillo, and their kids Ollie and Hazel; her Mom, Brothers Lee & Billy, and Sister Audrey DeNean.
She was loved by so many family members and friends and we felt that love for her through her diagnosis, treatment, and death.
The family would like to thank:
-Jason at Harrington Cancer Center. He was her favorite nurse and was so good at caring for her when she did chemo.
-Dr. Holland at BSA wound Care for his very honest conversations about what was happening and guiding us on how to move forward. We appreciated his honesty and his care for mom's tumor.
-the Harrington radiation department- Dr. Arsenault and his amazing staff- Lauren RN, Bobbi NP, and Brooklyn the Tech. They were so good to us and would answer any questions that we had and went above and beyond when we had needs.
-so many staff members at Harrington Cancer Center- the CT department, the techs doing radiation, all of the kind nurses and people we met, we really appreciate you.
-Shelly Evans from BSA Hospice of the Southwest who cared for all of us so much and so well.
-All of the people who brought meals, sent cards, and prayed for the Miracle.
Just to be clear, we got the miracle! She made it to her Birthday, and she’s healed in heaven.
“And If Not, He is STILL Good.” Daniel 3:17
