Rosemary Hamrick Schultz, 70, of Amarillo, passed peacefully on April 2, 2025 of complications from a chronic illness.
Memorial service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Born in El Paso, Texas to Shirley and Paul Clement, Rosemary’s Valentine’s Day birthday matched her own mother’s birthday, and also matched a theme of her life, Love.
Rosemary loved music, and much of her youth in El Paso was spent singing in church and school choirs, as well as piano and classical pipe organ lessons. A gifted musician, upon graduating from Burges High School, she attended West Texas State University in Canyon for a degree in English, as well as to study music/pipe organ. At WT, she met Mike Hamrick. They married, made their home in Amarillo, and shared two children, Lauren and Charlie.
Rosemary loved her children, enthusiastically attending baseball games, nervously attending football games, and watching So. Many. Ballets. She served with the Lone Star Ballet Guild in the early 1990s, chaperoned Campfire Kids summer camps, and as a family, regularly attended Polk Street United Methodist Church.
Rosemary actually loved all children, for as she raised her own, she began a career in elementary education that would span three decades. Rosemary taught second grade at South Lawn Elementary, then became a GT facilitator for AISD before serving as assistant principal at Glenwood Elementary. She finished her career as principal of Sunrise Elementary, alongside a faculty, students, and community that earned many accolades, including the prestigious Blue Ribbon School designation. Rosemary loved to talk about education, and she absolutely loved her fellow teachers and the friends she made during those thirty years.
Rosemary enjoyed a retirement spent traveling with her second husband, Wes Schultz. They cruised, attended concerts, cheered at MLB games, and flew all over the world. She was also always happy to host a celebratory bridal shower for a friend or deliver a roast when someone had been sick.
Perhaps the only thing that Rosemary loved more than all of these things was being “Aha” to her grandchildren. Ever patient, Rosemary-as-Aha helped them decorate cakes with their tiny hands, listened intently to piano practice and, once again, found herself in the audience of many ballet performances. Their happiest times together, though, were simply watching the birds roam her beautifully kept backyard garden. Rosemary will be missed by many, but missed so very much by the children who called her Aha.
Rosemary is preceded in death by her father and mother, her brothers, Brian Clement and Robert Clement, and her husband, Wes Schultz. She is survived by her son, Charles Hamrick of Amarillo, her daughter, Lauren Yoshawirja (Henry) and her grandchildren Irelyn Rose Yoshawirja and Bradley Eric Yoshawirja, all of El Paso. She also has numerous precious nieces and nephews in Texas, New Mexico, and beyond.
Rosemary’s children would like to extend special thanks to Martha Vinson, Carrie Brown, Paty Bedoy, Shelly Kerr, and the Hamricks for their many kindnesses and assistance through the past several months. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution in her memory to the National Audubon Society or any community charity or non-profit group close to your heart.
