Rose Mary Lemmons, 86, passed away on Wednesday, November 20th, 2013 at Heavenly Angels Nursing Home in Amarillo, Texas. She was born July 24th, 1927, in Marysville, Kansas, to Harry and Alice Thompson.
Surviving are her two sons, Larry Lemmons of Lakewood, Colorado and Terry (Suzanne) Lemmons of Hernando Beach, Florida; three sisters, Georgia (Ronnie Mahan) Kachiros and Lola King of Amarillo, Dora (Bill) Feck of St Petersburg, Florida and one brother, Tom (Lisa) Thompson of Amarillo.
She also had an “adopted family” in Ft Collins, Colorado she loved to spend time with, the Spurriers. Harry and Kathy Spurrier and their three beautiful daughters Robin, Hayley and Tria, whom she considered her own grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents, two brothers, Harry Thompson of St Petersburg, Roy Thompson of Amarillo and one sister, Nela (Francis) Runkle of Amarillo.
Rose traveled extensively with her husband while he was in the Air Force, living in exotic places such as Turkey and Japan. She lived most of her life in Colorado and Amarillo, Texas, where many of her family are today.
Rose worked for the federal government and later the school district in Amarillo. She also volunteered for the NAARF and tax assistance programs after retiring.
She loved jigsaw puzzles, Mahjong and playing card games. She continued traveling after retirement, going on many cruises and trips.
She was a truly wonderful person to be around, her smile lit up everyone’s lives and she will be greatly missed.
The funeral service will be at 11 AM on Saturday the 23rd of November, at the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel at 2800 Paramount Blvd in Amarillo. Her ashes will be spread in the Colorado mountains by her sons next summer. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
