Roel G. Zapata, 83, of Channing, died on Wednesday, January 24, 2024. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 29, 2024 at Boxwell Brothers Memorial Chapel, 500 N. Maddox. Burial will follow at the Channing Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas.
Roel was born on September 17, 1940 in Realitos, Texas. He grew up in Sinton, Texas where he loved to play baseball. He raised his family in Brownwood before moving to Channing in 2008. He had worked for Burlington Northern Railroad and later became a concrete finisher. He loved to preach the gospel and play the accordion.
He was preceded in death by a son, Randy Zapata.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Benita Zapata of Channing; three daughters, Angie Zapata and husband Pedro Rodriguez of Amarillo, Rachel Osborn and husband Jonathan of Channing, and Rebecca Zapata and George Garcia of Channing; a son, Troy Valdez and wife Keitha of Dalhart; a sister, Lupe Guajardo of Dumas; eighteen grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 3:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M.
