Rodney Russell, 76, of Amarillo died Saturday, May 12, 2018.

Memorial services will be at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Rodney was born July 3, 1941, in San Angelo to Andrew and Elsie Russell.  He was awarded a scholarship to play football at University of North Texas, where he also boxed. He served in the Texas National Guard.

Rodney married Gail Bingham on May 29, 1965, in San Angelo.

Rodney was passionate about Quarter Horses, which he bred and showed.  Rodney also enjoyed hunting.  He was a member of St. Stephen United Methodist Church.  He was a supervisor at the City of Amarillo in the water department.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lisa Renee Harris.

Survivors include his wife, Gail Russell, of Amarillo; a daughter, Theresa Rhoden and husband Craig, of Borger; a grandson, David McIntosh and wife Hannah, of Dallas; and two granddaughters, Southern Shira, of Denton and Marci Harris, of Amarillo.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to American Diabetes Association, 2451 Crystal Drive, Suite 900, Arlington, VA 22202.
