Robert was born June 8, 1943, in Trinidad, CO, to Gertrude Scruggs Boughner. He was raised by his maternal grandparents in Trinidad until he was eight years old. He then moved to Dumas to live with his mother and her husband, Marco Stilinovich, and graduated from Dumas High School in 1963.
He married Carol Peters on June 5, 1964, in Dumas and were married for fifty-four years. They had two children, Kim and Jason. Carol preceded him in death on July 18, 2018. He then married Janice Morris on January 11, 2020.
Robert retired from Diamond Shamrock in December 2005 after twenty-eight years. He loved riding motorcycles, especially Honda Gold Wings, and owned several over the years. He took many motorcycle trips to Colorado with a group of men he worked with at Shamrock. He often said he’d been on every road in western Colorado by way of motorcycle. Robert loved watching anything about history, old Westerns, and car shows. Robert could fix anything and in his younger years he loved tinkering with lawnmowers and working on cars. He was known as a great neighbor who would help anyone in need.
Robert was a member of McCormick Road Fellowship after coming to know his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in March 2009. He was a greeter and helped cook and clean up in the church kitchen.
Robert is survived by his wife, Janice Boughner, of the home; daughter, Kim Smith and husband Gary, of Amarillo, TX; son, Jason Boughner, of Plano, TX; his grandson, Skylar Boughner, of Plano, TX; granddaughter, Jordan Boughner, a senior at the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, OK. When he married Janice, he inherited a big family including her sons, Don Fritz and wife Deneise, of Amarillo, TX, and Bill Fritz and wife Leann, also of Amarillo, TX; nine grandkids; sixteen great-grandkids; and two great-great-grandkids.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to McCormick Road Fellowship, 13330 Mescalero Trail, Amarillo, TX 79118; or to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
